So
where do I begin with tonight’s action because there was plenty
of it. We finally raced and its only been a month since we last
did haha. Well I ran the car in practice and it felt great, I had
it back to where it was before the accident so I was in a pretty
good mood. Then my mood got even better when they spilt the field
because 42 X-Cars showed up, so to anyone with an X-Car, running
or not, bring it next week so they can split it again!!!
But
the race finally got underway after a lengthy Super X-Car race.
I was in the first of two X-Car features. I started 12th and I took
my time and drove to the front. I was in second following the number
17 of Dustin Gage to find the best way around him. Unfortunately
I misjudged when he was breaking and when I went to make my move
on the outside I drove right into the back of him sending him spinning
into turn one. I take full blame for that and felt bad about it
because that is not how I race and not how I like to take the lead
by, spinning someone out. Luckily no-one hit him and he was able
to get his position back because the yellow came out.
I
took the lead away from him with a clean pass on the restart and
set sail on the field, then the yellow came out again. I tried to
set sail on the field but this time the number 87 of Brad Voglesong
was glued to my bumper. He kept trying to make runs but just didn’t
have the power to get around me.
I
took the white flag while leading (the 6th time in the past 10 races
by the way) and we went down the back stretch and I saw he had nothing
for me. But in front of me was a lap car that was all over the place,
we went into turn three and we were running down the lap car, he
was right in the middle of the track and if I had ran my line off
the turn would have been in his bumper really quick, so I went high
and thought brad would go low, well he went low on me but high on
the lap car who just wouldn’t move out of the way, we all
got together, it was kind of a blur from there but we all ended
up wrecking, I broke my front suspension and so did Brad and needless
to say Brad got me at the line by a nose. It was a great race but
I really got to start getting more checkers then white flags haha.
In
the second race points leader Pat Williams in the 78 Neon had problems
all night, starting in practice with a broken axel and then ending
the night in 12th after a spin in the caution free race. However
my teammate Jeff Mehlenbacher in the #13 in his first race back
after a year off, won by a huge margin. So congrats to him and the
rest of the Shantok Motors Team.
So
to sum up tonight I am upset I didn’t win, but yet it was
a good night because I finished as high as possible without adding
more weight to the car, I passed tech, I gained points, the car
will be even better for next weeks two races, and my teammate won…
would have been cool if we swept though but we can save that for
next week.
Sorry
about writing so much but hey if the Speedbowl won’t write
anything about the X-Cars… or even the best race of the night…
I figured I would, because its not just Legends and X-Mod’s
that race there on Wednesdays.
