For
the first time ever, MCM fielded two cars in two different divisions
over the same race weekend. And was pretty happy with the results
considering it is a lot harder to do then it looks. In the #30 Shantok
Motors X-Car race we made the wrong call with switching two tires
around, thinking the track would be a lot looser then in the first
practice session, it turned out to make the car awful. It was like
driving a dump truck, and honestly I thought to myself a few laps
in why did I even bother to touch the steering wheel because steering
isn’t doing anything to help it get thru the turns haha. The
only reason I got fourth was because the #17 got a little lose in
turn #2 and I was able to get around him and stay there. I got to
the bumper of the #07 but had nothing for him. I finished fourth
and was happy with that, and that I didn’t wreck the car,
and learned not to ever put the tires in the combination that I
had them at haha. Oh yah the car is still for sale FYI. Also let
me say congrats to Pete in the #07 on winning 2007 Rookie of the
Year in the X-Car division. As I told him the first few races I
had his number on my steering wheel because I considered him the
number one hazard on the track. Near season end he was the car to
beat, all the veteran drivers were respecting him as a racer, and
I bet he will be winning a lot of races come 2008, so a BIG CONGRATS
to Pete!!!!!
In
the mini stock race I had being fighting a tight condition all weekend
with it. For the race we made a lot of changes and it worked out.
The front end was able to turn where I wanted to turn it, my only
problem was a lack of grip all around, the car would just do a four
way slide up the track, it was frustration because if I had grip
I would have easily run higher up in the pack. I finished 13th though,
and was very happy with that result, it is only my third race ever,
the longest race I have done at the Speedbowl, 50 laps, and I completed
all my goals; Don’t affect the outcome of the points race!!
Don’t wreck the car, finish all the laps, and finish on the
lead lap!!! I want to thank Phil Evans for giving me a few tips
my car, they really helped, and a BIG THANKS to the entire #2 crew
of John and Doug, they helped me out since I showed up three weeks
ago, let me use their rims and tires for the races, and just taught
me a lot about these cars that I know nothing about. And of course
thanks to my dad for all the work he did on both cars this season
and especially this past weekend, it’s a lot more difficult
to have to work on two cars in two different divisions then to just
work on one.
